Washington is one of several states that charges a sales tax on title insurance premiums as well as escrow and settlement fees. These taxes vary by location, and typically there are changes across multiple localities from one quarter to the next which can be monitored via the Washington state Department of Revenue website.
Since the rate charged is dependent on closing location which is generally unknown or can change from the time of the initial quote, LodeStar references the highest combined rate possible in the state (the Combined Sales Tax columns) when a quote is requested in order to ensure that there are no cures on this amount.
Within LodeStar, the sales tax is placed in Section C and named, "Municipal Premium Tax", as shown below. We are able to change the name to your preferred fee name, if needed.
