In 2006, the state of Indiana created the Title Insurance Enforcement Fund Fee (TIEFF). This fee has two purposes, as stated by Indiana state government:
- To provide supplemental funding for department [of insurance] operations that are related to title insurance.
- To pay the costs of hiring and employing staff in the area of enforcement of title insurance law.
Anyone who purchases title insurance in the state of Indiana must pay a fee of $5 to the TIEFF.
LodeStar includes the TIEFF on a quote for any property in the state of Indiana. It will appear as follows in our Closing Cost Details section:
For more information, please consult the Indiana Department of Insurance's 2006 bulletin on the TIEFF.
